PaperForge

v0.1.0 • native C++20 + Qt 6.8 desktop PDF workspace • libpaperforge

linuxwindowsqt6c++20

> What it is

PaperForge is a native desktop PDF workspace: left Navigator (Pages, Search, Outline, Comments), central document tabs + viewer, right Tool Center, status bar. Files stay local — no accounts, no uploads. Built on libpaperforge (parse, render, xref, writer, compress, export, OCR via Tesseract, compare, audit, split, redact, repair) with configurable PdfLimits.

> Tools shipped

  • Organize Pages: reorder, rotate 90°, delete unreferenced pages (blocked when references remain; skips encrypted/page-labeled PDFs)
  • Combine / Split / Extract: merge PDFs; split after pages or copy ranges (source never modified, never overwritten)
  • Compare Files: per-page text diff (Identical / Differs / Only-in-left/right) with side-by-side previews
  • Diagnostics: spec-conformance findings, operator histogram, size breakdown, dead bookmarks/links
  • Comments, Search, Outline, Thumbnails, Measure, Export, Compress, Blackout extract, OCR layers, Print
  • Repair: damaged startxref/trailer falls back to xref rescan then object-scan rebuild (was_repaired())

> Safety boundaries

  • Encryption writing, signing, selective secure redaction intentionally unsupported; encrypted input refused where unsafe.
  • Blackout extract is a separate destructive export — it does not erase originals or backups.
  • replace_text is editing, not secure redaction. Test representative PDFs before production; keep backups before bulk ops.

> Roadmap

Encrypted + page-labeled split support once rewrites are safe. OAuth cloud sync is in development — full Drive read/write planned so you can pick any files, plus OneDrive/Dropbox; not available in v0.1.0, no accounts today. See Privacy.
